Facility

The LMC contains several areas where students may browse, look for information, search for specific materials, and/or check out items. Students are welcome to visit the LMC as often as classroom teachers allow.

"Libeary bear" greets students as they select date due slips for their books.

Students check out their materials using a computer; even kindergartners check out their own books.

Optional activity sheets are available for students to select when they visit the LMC. These are usually "fun" activities related to specific events, holidays or curriculum topics.

Mr. Bones, our resident skeleton, dresses for special occasions; this time he's celebrating Valentine's Day.

Using the online catalog helps locate materials and determine their availability.

Students are able to select their own books, but the books should be at an appropriate independent reading level.

Everyone Fiction (Picture Books)
Short story books with wonderful illustrations; filed alphabetically by the last name of the author

Fiction Books (Chapter Books)
Longer stories divided into chapters; filed alphabetically by the last name of the author

Mystery Books
Fiction books that have been separately organized for the convenience of the students; filed alphabetically by the last name of the author

Nonfiction Books
Organized by Dewey Decimal number (000-999) which arranges books by subject

Biographies
Provide information about individual people; filed alphabetically by the last name of the person the book is about

Reference Books
Special informational books used for research purposes; filed according to Dewey Decimal numbers (000-999); cannot be checked out

Audio Books
Books with cassette tapes enclosed in audio visual hanging plastic bags; filed alphabetically by the last name of the author

Circulation Desk
Houses the computer where students check out their materials and the bin to return materials

Online Catalog
Students may search for LMC materials using any of the 4 search stations in the LMC or any other computer throughout the building
